Prineville, Oregon was the location selected for Facebook’s first hyperscale greenfield data center development. At the time, the facility is one of the most energy-efficient in the world, featuring an innovative cooling system created for the unique climate characteristics of central Oregon. The data center uses energy-efficiency technologies, including an evaporative cooling system and an airside economizer that brings in 100 percent ambient air. The facility re-uses server heat to warm office space in the colder months, and a patent-pending electrical design reduces electricity usage.
All phases achieved LEED-NC Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.
