Sarah Lynn Rees has been appointed to a fractional lecturer position in the Department of Architecture at Monash University.
Rees is a Palawa woman descending from the Aboriginal people of North-East Tasmania and she is also a descendant of convicts from the Cambridgeshire region in England.
She is currently also working at Jackson Clements Burrows in Birrarung-Ga (Melbourne), and has previously worked with Will Alsop in his London-based practice All Design.
Her role at Monash University is a strategic position funded by Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous), Professor Jacinta Elston, and the Faculty of Art Design and Architecture. It will enable her to seek productive overlaps between architectural practice while still working for JCBA, conduct practice-based research, and research-led teaching, in the area of Indigenizing the built environment.
Rees will also work with Wominjeka Djeembana, a research lab led by Dr Brian Martin, which “aims to articulate the synergies between Indigenous ways of knowing, with practice led research specifically in the areas of art, design and architecture (and beyond).”
